The Rolex Yacht-Master 40 reference 126621. Needless to say, a stunning watch. I was lucky enough wear this stunning mixture of Everose and Oystersteel for a good week allowing enough time to gauge an initial reaction and inspect the finer details of this timepiece.

Welcome to the “Week on the Wrist’ series where I wear a watch for one week to gauge the initial reaction and inspect those finer details which one can easily overlook or not necessarily notice during that honeymoon period of purchasing a watch.

To set the premise, my wrist is 17cm in circumference; a little on the smaller side.

As you may already know from every article ever written about the Yacht-Master reference 126621 - the Yacht-Master was introduced in 1992, some people say this was meant to be the updated version of its older brother, the behemoth that is the Rolex Submariner. Whether this is true, we may never know.

Initial reactions to placing this watch upon my wrist was the sheer comfort of this bracelet, as it shares the same rounded case as the Daytona, it seems to fit that just bit more appropriately on my wrist in comparison to the GMT-Master II or the Submariner.

Of course the watch fans within the friendship group/family clocked it straight away as the touch of colour does make it stand out just that bit more than a steel piece.

Time keeping was great, as once would expect. The black face also gives it a slightly more subdued look, paired with the Everose, I did not feel this felt as bold as a yellow gold watch.

As time flew by, as this does tend to happen in life, I have noticed that the Everose does seem to highlight the fingerprints. Maybe that was just me being more scrutinizing, or maybe this is the case.

This being a bi-directional bezel, I was intrigued as to whether it would rotate with usage over time - the main reason for the bi-directional bezel being that it proved flexibility for people when timing regatta races; therefore not pointless contrary to what some people may say.

Being someone that has been in a fortunate position to have owned a fair share of Rolex’s over the years; among many other brands (do not worry keyboard warriors), people can often pose the question “is that real?”. Most of the time, people say it as a joke, some people ask endearingly as a Rolex is synonymous with success, and others, the people that would love to watch the world burn, ask this in the hope that it is not real. With this watch, I had a slightly different experience - no one said that. Instead I got “that looks expensive” and “that looks real”. The latter comment being a slightly obscure thing to say.

Everose works incredibly well with a tan, always a good thing to bear in mind. I did think that if I was however, not so tanned from then it may not suit as much; so as a summer watch - thumbs up all the way!

And so we come to the weekend, after a week of air conditioned offices, and careful placement whilst using the laptop, let’s see how this fairs.

Having two young children, I am often very much involved with making sure they do not lunge off climbing frames or generally get themselves in harm's way. At no point did I feel I had to place this in a cryogenic pod to ensure nothing happened to this watch. The case does not sit too proud at all thereby, not being a damage risk in day-to-day life. I do however think that the number one enemy of this watch will be the office. If you wear a formal shirt and/or site a desk then the Everose will show small scratches. On the other hand, I would also not feel comfortable taking this caving as you might the Explorer II.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, this watch is an absolutely phenomenal piece of craftsmanship, style, elegance, and usability. The weight on the wrist is excellent; not too heavy, but enough to remind of how amazing you are. It has great presence in terms of colour’s, resounding feedback, and warmth.

Would I have this as my only watch? I do not see why not at all!
