You suddenly have a budget of £5,000.00 to allocate to a new watch collection but you want to look at the secondary market only. Do you get one to rule them all, or do you get a few different pieces?
This is what I would pick, and why.
As a precursor, this week, the rules are as follows: £5,000.00, secondary market only, prices are current and what the retailer in question has listed. Lastly, The items has to be based in the UK as shipping and import tax can become an unwanted surprise.
TAG Heuer Aquaracer 300M Professional 300 Caliber 5 WBP201A.BA0632
£1,540.00 courtesy of Chrono24
A premium watch, with a fantastic movement, at a very reasonable price. More up to date face with the date towards the bottom but the cyclops view piece being underneath the glass meaning the surface is flush and less prone to being knocked (here’s looking at your Rolex!).
Do not let 43mm deter you. I have a 17cm wrist (small) and this still fit nicely whilst not looking humongous. This could also be paired really nicely with a rubber strap (Delugs seem to fit the best).
Omega Speedmaster Reduced 3510.50.00
£2,104.00 courtesy of eBay (authenticity guaranteed retailer)
You cannot go wrong with a speedmaster. A classic staple to anyone’s collection. The 39mm sits a bit tidier on the bigger brother, and the history of this is brilliant.
I would not recommend getting some of the obscure sub-dial designed ones (unless that is what you really want of course) as it can be quit easy to fall into the rabbit hole of getting a speedmaster for £1,200.00 and forever convincing yourself it looks great when all you wanted was the original looking watch. Do yourself a favor and spend that bit more to get the once you really want… thank me later.
This can also be paired with a rubber strap or (a bit out there I know) the “Delcro” strap from delugs if you like a more active style and realised that the Velcro strap that comes with the Omega x Swatch is… adequate for a watch of the price point on which it is placed.
Cartier Ronde Solo De Cartier W6700255 Steel Silver
£1,398.00 courtesy of Chrono24
Stunning dress watch; comes in various sizes but the 39mm tends to be a fair bit more. As this tends to be more of watch that fits eloquently when paired with a formal shirt and suit then 36mm is more than appropriate.
Cartier have such a rich history and can be spotted on the wrist of people from the highest echelons of society. So why not have a bit of class in your wardrobe?
Can also be pair with a metal bracelet but I think the leather works a bit better with this one.
Conclusion
The keen eyed mathematicians among you will notice that this brings us £42.00 over budget - not a problem! Simply ask each retailer for £42.00 off the listing price. There is nothing wrong with asking for a bit off. If they all say yes then you would be £84.00 up!
